Needing the Dough
[July/August 2002]

Real estate companies, like all publicly traded companies, face the same challenge of trying to grab investor interest—and capital. In the crowded investment landscape, many companies focus a great deal of personnel, time and resources to expanding their internal investor relations departments to help spread the company’s message. But not every company has those internal resources at their disposal. That is where Bigdough.com comes into play.

The company’s web site serves as an online investor relations portal where corporate IR staff, brokers, analysts and investment bankers meet to build relationships and share information.

“One of the things Bigdough offers that is unique is that we have the data and the software married together,” says Dan Murphy, director of research at Bigdough. “That allows real estate investment trusts and other publicly traded corporations to keep track of things like to-do lists and intelligence on their institutional investors, or to set up road shows and track the actions that they take.” Bigdough.com allows corporations the ability to do relatively basic IR functions as well, such as printing mailing labels and sending out e-mail blasts announcing earnings or conference call information.

Bigdough.com allows clients to be very specific in which investors and institutions they target. Larry Finger, senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer at Federal Realty Investment Trust, says, “Bigdough is very efficient and powerful, and it makes it easy for me to know not just which companies I should market to, but which individuals within that company to contact.”

Bigdough has more than a dozen REIT and real estate clients. The site reaches 45 of the 50 largest broker/dealers and investment banks on Wall Street and a large number of publicly traded companies and investor relations consultants.
